Celebrating All Who ‘Mother’ on Mother’s Day with Bianca Jones Jewellery
Jessica of The Woodland Wife recently featured a 'meet the maker' interview with me in honor of Mother's Day. It was a heartwarming opportunity to share our stories and celebrate the many forms of motherhood.
Mother’s Day Reflections When you think of Mother’s Day, what comes to mind? Perhaps it's your own mother, a friend who is a new mom, or maybe the day is bittersweet, bringing memories of a loved one no longer with us. Some may view it as just another commercial holiday, but for me, it's a day to honor not only my wonderful mother but also all who play a motherly role. This includes fathers stepping into dual roles, supportive aunts, and even those who are moms to beloved pets.
Mother’s Day Giveaway To celebrate this special day, Jessica and I are hosting an Instagram giveaway, offering a chance to win a Personalised Initial Necklace from my signature collection. This piece, cherished by Jessica, symbolizes her journey into motherhood with an 'A' engraved for her daughter, worn close to her heart every day.
A Glimpse into My Jewellery-Making Journey
My Early Inspiration My love for jewellery began in childhood, influenced by my mum's unique sense of style and her love for jewellery. She always surrounded me with positivity, often saying, "I put a white light around you." This became tangible on my sixteenth birthday when I received my first 'proper' jewellery—a Tiffany necklace and bracelet set. This experience planted the seed for my future in jewellery design, where I realized the power of creating pieces that symbolize love and connection.
The Creative Process My jewellery-making process is a blend of traditional and modern techniques. I start with sketches, sometimes moving directly to metalwork or wax carving. For more intricate designs like the Love You More Necklace, I use computer-aided design (CAD) to perfect the details. The journey from concept to finished piece can take years, as I carefully refine each design to ensure it resonates emotionally.
Sustainability and Craftsmanship Creating sustainable jewellery is crucial to me. I source materials responsibly and handcraft each piece in my London studio. This hands-on approach allows me to ensure that every element, from the weight to the feel of the jewellery, is perfect.
Personal Favourite Pieces I go through phases with my favourite pieces. Currently, I’m drawn to a solid gold comfort necklace with a diamond, layered with a gold Latitude & Longitude Necklace marking my birthplace. These pieces symbolize comfort and a sense of home, which are central themes in my work.
The Essence of Bianca Jones Jewellery Three words that sum up my jewellery: Personal, Heirloom, Comfort. My aim is to create pieces that not only stand the test of time but also become treasured family heirlooms, passed down through generations.
Looking Ahead I hope to continue crafting meaningful jewellery that tells stories, connects loved ones, and becomes a part of family legacies for years to come.
