How to Find Your Ring Size (Without Guesswork or Stress)
There’s something so personal about wearing a ring. It’s close to the skin, catches the light when you reach for your coffee, and becomes part of your daily rhythm. But getting the size right? That’s where things can feel… a little less dreamy.
If you’ve ever hovered over a ‘choose your size’ dropdown wondering “Wait, am I an M or an N?”, I see you. And I promise — this doesn’t have to be complicated.
Here’s the easiest way to find your ring size without leaving your sofa (or your oat flat white).
1. Use a Ring You Already Love
Grab a ring that fits the same finger you’re shopping for. Measure the inside diameter in millimetres — a ruler or digital caliper will do — then compare it with my downloadable Ring Size Guide. It’s the simplest shortcut and usually bang on.
2. Measure with a Paper Strip
Cut a thin strip of paper, wrap it around your finger snugly (but not tight), and mark where it overlaps. Measure that length in mm — that’s your finger’s circumference. Cross-check it on the guide, and voilà.
3. Go Pro (if you like an excuse for a stroll)
Still unsure? Pop into a local jeweller or come see me at a London pop-up — I’ll size you up in seconds. Or I can send you a ring sizer in the post — just drop me a note.
A Note on Fit:
Fingers can change slightly with the weather (hello cold hands), so it’s worth measuring when they feel warm and relaxed — mid-afternoon is usually perfect.
And remember: a slightly looser fit is often better than too tight, especially for wider bands.
Frequently Asked Questions About Ring Sizing
1. Can I measure my ring size at home accurately?
Yes, you can measure your ring size at home using methods like the string or paper technique. However, for the most accurate measurement, consider using a ring sizer or consulting with a professional jeweller. You can either download my ring sizer guide here or make an obligation free appointment with yours truly :)
2. How do I measure my partner's ring size without them knowing?
Discreet methods include borrowing a ring they frequently wear on the intended finger and measuring its diameter, or seeking assistance from their close friends or family to subtly find out.
3. Do fingers change size over time?
Yes, factors such as temperature, time of day, and physiological changes can cause finger sizes to fluctuate. It's best to measure your finger size at different times to ensure accuracy
4. What's the difference between UK and US ring sizes?
UK sizes are denoted by letters (e.g., L, M, N), while US sizes use numbers (e.g., 6, 6.5, 7)
5. Can all rings be resized?
Most rings can be resized, but designs with intricate patterns or full-band gemstones may pose challenges. On the whole most rings can only be size by a few sizes either way but, of course, this is completely dependant on the ring itself. Drop me an email and I can help!
6. How tight should my ring be?
Your ring should fit snugly enough to stay in place but loose enough to slide over your knuckle with slight resistance. It shouldn't cause discomfort or leave indentations.
7. Does the width of the band affect sizing?
Yes, wider bands tend to fit more snugly than thinner ones. If you're considering a ring with a wider band, you might need to go up half a size for comfort.
